Pride in St. Johns

It all started with an idea to get a few of us together in downtown St. Johns, MI for some sidewalk chalk in the name of celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month. So we found some sidewalk chalk, we asked our friend to come out and play some music in front of what is now the Minty Mitten, and posted on Facebook. 

We thought, maybe 25 people would show up...we were wrong...it was a lot more! We heard stories from people that used to live in St. Johns. Some of those people moved due to bullying about their gender and or sexual identity. They could have never imagined a Pride Month celebration happening in St. Johns, they came back to St. Johns and it was healing. We knew from this event we felt an overwhelming sense of joy from people that our community needed more opportunities like this. SO...we kept doing it every year.
